I was a little skeptical about you, Columbus GA. I had no idea what you had to offer. While transitioning to Fort Benning GA., I went to one of your, Welcome to GA. orientations. I was in awe at what your surrounding areas had to offer. There really is no reason why anyone should be full of boredom. Unless of course it is self induced. You are just full if what ever anyone wants to do. I started by taking you up on one of the most beautiful opportunities. Providence Canyon State Park in Lumpkin Ga. Also known as “The Little Grand Canyon”. Just a short drive from Columbus. There was no doubt I wasn’t going to go you 1st. I have never been to the Grand Canyon. Though it is on my bucket list, I still had to see what you were about.
On a nice cool Sunday morning the weather was just right. I went to see you, your trails and your 
canyons. Greeted by a polite and helpful Park Ranger, giving the guidance needed to start right. You are perfectly designed. You have a 7mile nature trail that circles the canyons and connect to the 3mile loop just on the outskirts of the canyons. Just perfect!
Started with the 7 mile trial was the right choice. Guess I must have been the 1st one you seen walking so early. No cars in the parking areas and no footprints on the trail. Walking through gracefully with my headphones in. But the music still faint and low enough to hear my surroundings. I can smell the air so fresh and crisp. Sometimes, similar to that of fresh cut grass. You weren’t to challenging but you were fun to hike. Deer scrambling through the woods as I walk by. To fast for me to take pictures though. If they would only stay still for 30 seconds more. Ok, let me se if I walk slower. UMMMMMMM Yea! Didn’t work.
Made it to the Canyon. You were tall and layered with so many different colors. Layers telling your stories and how old you truly are. Tones and shades of rusty sand. Pastel greys shading midway to a soft white peak. I couldn’t get enough of you or the way you intertwined. Seemed as if I saw you in different ways every time, as I returned back to the same spot. You were MAGNIFICENT! History says it was bad
farming that decayed the lands and created you. Behind the scenes, I am sure the Lords hands had something to do with how beautiful you still remain. Thank you for welcoming me to my 1st hike here in Georgia and looking forward to visiting you in the future.
