I Loved you 1st! (Amoura, A Grandfather’s Joy)

AMOURA!!  It was about 3 years ago when I wrote “I loved you 1st” for your mother. Here is a quick recap of the point I was trying to get across you your mom:

“Well, I am back and you have grown up so fast. Work, school and a MOTHER!! WOW!! You became a mom so young. You made me a grandfather at such a young age too. To be honest, it fills my heart. You have become a phenomenal woman. But I want to make just a few things clear. I want to make just a few more statements. We will always have a special bond. If someone EVER comes to ask for your hand, my answer will always be NO unless I know he is the half that will make you whole. I will always be here for you. You’ve always had me wrapped around your finger since the day you were born. I’ll always wonder, what is the one thing you loved most about our relationship? I realize that being your father was and will always be the greatest privilege.  One thing is clear. I held you 1st, I loved you 1st, I will hold you last, I’ll love you last. The one thing this father knows, the hardest part is letting go. But you will always be my little girl”.

Now here you are, Amoura!!  When I 1st heard of you, I was in Afghanistan and with a img_6004roller coaster of emotions but disappointed, I was not.  Your mom wrote a very beautiful blog about you. SO!, I won’t get into too much detail about the miracle you became. I will add the link at the bottom in case you haven’t read it.  I prayed day and night, wishing I was there every step of the way for the both of you. Back from deployment but still in Germany, you were born. Hurt to the depth of my soul not to be by your side. When I finally got to hold you in my arms, it assured what I felt and was forever changed.

Amoura! My love for you is even deeper. SO!!!!  With that said, I may have not held you 1st, I may have not loved you 1st. But since MY LOVE for you is merely an extension of my love for your mom, I feel I did. So, I just have a few words for you. If your mom ever says no to you, just call me, I’ll always say yes. Your mom will not always have the answer for you but I will. Always think big, if that doesn’t work, think bigger! Don’t do dumb stuff, but if you decide to, call me after and tell me all about it and we can laugh together. I will always cook or bake you something, just come over.  Your future is inside you. Be kind and always play fair, even when others don’t. There is no right way of doing the wrong thing. Remember, I will always believe in you. Never forget, I will love you forever, for always, unconditionally, I love you more than everything.

Being your grandfather is one of the true joys of my life and a blessing from God!!
