Austria’s Amateur Hour!!!

imageSalzburg Austria, you were my first winter hike. Somewhat spontaneous! I have always wanted to go for a hike. Especially, after my trip to Innsbruck when Heather came to visit. A Wednesday afternoon I decided to take your winter trails for a trial run. After YouTube’s videos on winter hiking and trekking, I needed to do some serious shopping and prepping. Early Saturday morning with my gear all packed; Simba’s GPS programmed for Salzburg and no real pinpoint on where exactly I wanted to visit you. Just wanted you to surprise me with your breathtaking trails and lessons on how to explore. Stopped for a map of the trails and weather info. Wasn’t sure how much hiking you were going to let me do with over 6 inches of snow and forecasting for more. I’ll just follow the signs and stay off the more advanced trails. With your snow-capped mountains, pure white snow and poorly marked trails.. Haaaaah! They were just covered by all your snow, I’m an amateur, not your fault I could have fallen over the side. Still! Had me speechless. Glacier water streaming down the snow-covered rocky side mountainsIMG_6765, deer tracks disappearing into the woods, snow-covered cabins in the middle of nowhere, the freshness of your snow and misty air was that out of something you only see in dreams and movies. You made this real. Even saw your horse pulled sleigh, how coooool!!! You broadened my horizons and my sense of adventure. I couldn’t wait to tell everyone at home about you. You have me more excited about all my upcoming trips. GUTE NACHT SALZBURG!!!
